House Flies

All of us know House Flies. The creatures breed all over the world in and around houses. They are particularly fond of rubbish dumps. In fact they like to to seat themselves on decaying organic matter and we provide them enough of it.

Habits

These flies are gray, approximately 6 mm long, with four longitudinal stripes on middle body region. Their mouth parts are adapted for sponging up liquids. Unable to bite, they ingest food by regurgitating saliva onto it. Specks seen on surfaces visited by house flies are their excreted wastes. As for the life cycle, the flies deposit their eggs in decaying organic matter such as garbage. Eggs hatch in a day or two into worm-like creatures known as maggots. At this stage, they lack definite heads, eyes, antennae and legs.

The young burrow into the breeding medium and complete development in three days to several weeks. It depends on the temperature and quality of food materials. The larvae move to drier portions of the breeding medium to pupate for three days to a few weeks before emerging as adults. Adult house flies may migrate to uninfested areas several miles away, but most flies stay within one or two miles of the breeding site.

How to Prevent Damage

  • Eliminate the breeding sites of these flies.
  • Clear your home of non-food items, such as wet mops, dirty dishes, and old sponges.
  • Ensure that surroundings of your home and office are clean.
  • Clean crumbs and spills from your cabinets and floor.
  • Throw all trash at the designated place. Avoid re-using the plastic liner garbage bags.
  • Call professionals if the menace goes beyond your control.

We emphasize on using green methods to exterminate house flies that are both very effective as well as environment friendly.
