Bedbugs

Bedbugs are irritating pests, usually found in bed frames, furniture and carpets etc. These bloodsucking insects which appear flat and oval-shaped are between 1/4 inch and 5/8 inch long. Their tiny size helps them to hide easily from vision during day time when they are usually inactive. They come out of their hiding places in the night, suck your blood and then, go back in hiding. The after effect of bug bite might range from no feeling at all to inflammation and infection.

Habits

Bed bugs are typically brown, but they appear red and swollen just after feeding. Young bugs, known as nymphs, have a light gray exoskeleton which appears to be nearly colorless. Their eggs are so small that it is impossible to see them with naked eye. Bugs feed primarily on humans, though they can suck the blood of any animal. The reason for biting humans is that humans don't have fur which makes it easier for them to suck blood.

Bed bugs lifespan is four to six months, with a mature female pest laying about 500 eggs during her lifetime. Eliminating an infestation requires the use of pesticides, a thorough cleaning of the infested area and the removal of infested materials from the home. These insects adapt well to human environments and are found worldwide. Bedbugs tend to stay close together and have a distinctively sweet, yet unpleasant smell. Blood spotting on mattresses and nearby furnishings spell bedbug infestation
