Honey Bees

Honey bees are fuzzy yellow brown to black insects varying in size from ½ to 5/8-inch long worker bees to about 5/8 drones and up to ¾-inch long queen bees. They all have large heads, with big eyes and two antennae. A stripped body, with two pair of wings and a barbed stringer are the identifying features of a honey bee. The honey bees sting if they feel their colony is threatened, which is quite painful and makes it a concern for people to remove any beehive near their house.

Habits

Honey bees are social insects that live in colonies of around 20,000 to 80,000 bees. The queen bee is responsible for producing eggs for the colony and lays 1,000-2,000 eggs per day. The workers produce honey by collecting nectar from the flowers. Bees are not aggressive as such, but they can sting whenever there is a threat to their colony. The bee sting is quite painful and it leaves a stringer along with venom on the skin.

They can make their hive at any sheltered place like a hollow tree, hollow wall, at any corner of the house and several other places. Once they have made a hive at a place, it is very difficult to remove it as their attack in large groups can be very dangerous.

How to Prevent Damage

  • Make sure there are no holes or cracks in your house or garage that are secluded places, as they can be a good shelter for bees. If any, seal them with mesh wire.
  • Keep your garden area and lawn clean. Remove any lumber piles, hollow logs or any debris as they are a preferred nesting site for bees.
  • Bees prefer areas that are secluded, hence cleaning all areas regularly will help. Make sure there are no corners or areas in your house that remain unvisited and are not maintained for a long time.
  • Take professional help, if you notice a large beehive in or around your house. Trying to remove it yourself may trigger attack by the bees, which can be deadly.

We have specialized methods to remove any bee hives from your area very effectively and make sure they do not return.
